It's because of volunteer organizations like Squamish Search and Rescue (SSAR) that we can venture deep into the wilderness. Nature is beautiful but unpredictable, and in the event that something goes wrong, SSAR members are on call 24/7 to bring us home safely.

The collaboration between SSAR and Helly Hansen is one of several on our list of partnerships with search and rescue teams across the globe, such as the Norwegian People's Aid and King County Explorer Search & Rescue. Our relationship with these organizations provides opportunities to gather valuable product feedback, and as such, these partnerships have become a valuable resource and crucial innovation driver.

Volunteers of the Outdoors

Squamish is the Outdoor Recreation Capital of Canada. This, in combination with its proximity to Vancouver and its potential for a wide range of backcountry activities in rugged and potentially hostile terrain, creates unequal conditions for a high incidence of backcountry emergencies.

With an imposing response area extending from Porteau Cove to the southern boundary of Whistler and the Squamish Valley, the Squamish Search and Rescue (SSAR) is a volunteer, community-based organization comprised of a diverse group of volunteers, spanning a multitude of technical backgrounds.

They perform 24/7 search and rescue services, including swiftwater, high-alpine avalanche, mountaineering, rock climbing, and mountain bike rescues. As more and more people venture deeper and deeper into the backcountry, the demands on rescuers have increased, as has the complexity of the tools and systems relied on by the team. To maintain proficiency in various search and rescue techniques, the SSAR team members train throughout the year.
