The Skagen Collection | Tough against the elements, designed for the environment

Skagen is built to help sailors withstand the swirling tide currents, sun, wind and even snow as they cross the treacherous Skagerrak Strait.

Highlights of the perennial best-selling collection include its versatility for both coastal and offshore sailing, as well as the comfort it offers across a range of conditions. Select items in the Skagen collection are now upgraded with 50% recycled content, including our latest Ocean Bound materials that makes use of existing waste with the aim of preventing more from entering the ocean.

Tough against the elements

HELLY TECH® Performance is the waterproof and breathable outer layer between you and the elements. HELLY TECH® is a combination of a DWR-treated outer fabric, a highly breathable and waterproof membrane, and a highly breathable inner fabric. This unique membrane keeps water molecules out, while allowing sweat vapor to pass through – keeping you dry from the outside and comfortable on the inside. In addition, the mesh lining offers a much welcomed quick dry solution, enabling air to circulate as the intensity builds on board.

My clothing is my protection against a harsh environment, without it I would not be able to sail an IMOCA, it would be dangerous and foolhardy to try in a kit that was not up to the job.

We integrated SOLAS-approved reflectors; their candela rating of over 1000 enables you to be seen from thousands of feet, compared to the average of hundreds. EN20471-certified hi-vis piping gives extra peace of mind as the sun edges below the horizon. Whether you’re a sailing novice or expert, these features can be life-saving.

Designed for the environment

Developed with professional sailors who care deeply about the environment in which they thrive, select products incorporate at least 50% high-performance recycled content. Not compromising on quality, thick, sturdy and durable 600D Oxford CORDURA® ECO - made from reclaimed waste - resists abrasion and reinforces strategic areas.

Also incorporated in select products are durable Ocean Bound materials. Sourced from abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing buoys, which would otherwise persist as waste in the ocean, the materials are repurposed into the highest quantity and quality of durable nylon possible.

It’s a win-win – for the environment and the professionals relying on our gear.

Versatility at the core

As the knots pick up and the rain turns horizontal, the Skagen Offshore Jacket gives good protection with its high collar and adjustable neoprene face mask. Inner PU cuffs provide tight sealing, and drainage pockets provide a quick exit route for any unwelcome water. The hood comes with an elasticated drawcord for a customized fit.

I believe the Skagen Offshore Jacket offers the high level of comfort, protection and functionality for a variety of sailing conditions. Its features also lend well to the work I do now in my directorship of The Ocean Race, both on a technical level and in line with our vision to race with purpose when it comes to sustainability and protecting our seas.

More from the Skagen collection

The upgraded Skagen Collection with Ocean Bound materials comprises an offshore jacket and bib (available in men’s and women’s specific designs). Not only is each product protective, comfortable, and lightweight for sailing, but versatile for leisurely strolls along the marina once in port.

The Skagen Offshore Bib is also made to protect you from the elements. Velcro adjustable ankles secure cold spots while reinforced back hems add extra durability. Articulated knees and fleece-lined hand pockets deliver comfort no matter the conditions.
